In the wisdom literature of the Old Testament, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 notes that two are better than one, because their collective work yields a better return. It points out that if one person falls, the other one can lift him/her up, help him/her stay warm, and together they can better defend themselves. It concludes by declaring that a cord of three strands is not easily broken.
That thought is the birthplace of our non-profit, A Cord of 3 Strands: NEB.
In our extensive history of working with children, families, schools, in academia, communities and churches, we’ve long since come to experience that we are stronger together. We do not see it as a cheesy, feel-good slogan, but as a wise and intentional strategy for helping our most vulnerable populations.
In our efforts to strengthen and support youth, we are intentional about doing so: a) across the multiple arenas of their lives, b) by also supporting the adults in their lives, c) by intentionally creating space, time, and opportunities for the generations to interact and for intergenerational gifts and wisdom to be creatively shared and displayed.
AND, by the grace of God, our youth, families, communities, schools, churches, etc., will prove to be more fortified 🙏🏾.
